The National Library of France houses the French printed heritage in its François Mitterrand site. The building was built by Dominique Perrault and inaugurated in 1995. Heir to the royal archives, the building houses rich and varied collections but is also a high cultural place (library for the general public, exhibitions, conferences, visits).

"As a continuation of the commemorations of the bicentenary of the Geographical Society, created in Paris in 1821, created in 1922, the Bibliothèque nationale de France is organising from 10 May to 21 August 2022 a major exhibition "Faces of Exploration in the 19th Century. 2. Hélène Blais, a professor at the École normale supérieure, and Olivier Loiseaux, general curator of the BnF's Department of Maps and Charts, will curate the exhibition.
