Processes of territorial construction. Migrant Places in the reticular spaces of social networks
The following contribution aims to investigate the possibilities of constructing geographical space that the use of the web, and more specifically of social networks, offers to individuals, groups and communities in mobility that inhabit it.
As a vast set of public spaces that are open and accessible to most people, also in relation to the widespread use of technological tools at a global level, the social spaces of the web represent a privileged field of investigation in the study of new forms of communication and spatial 'construction', especially in contexts or situations where physical and 'actual' space is strongly divisive - if not completely denied - and conditioned by classificatory systems such as citizenship, social status or ethnic or religious affiliation.
These web-based relational spaces are often the physical reproduction of a 'vague' elsewhere, and are functional to recover or even rebuild a group identity lost or fragmented during migration. The aim is to observe the social dynamics of seeking, making, and keeping place (Knott, Vazquez, 2014) through which these spaces take shape and how a network of physical streets and squares is overlaid with a web of possible connections between relational nodes that constitute the 'virtual city', in order to deeply analyze dynamics of production of places and spaces.
