This communication arises from a teaching experience in History and Geography, in the Degree in Basic Education (6-12 years), developed over four years (2018-19 to 2021-22).
The scientific links between Geography and History reveals interesting potentialities for teacher training that privileges the development of historical-geographical skills, in an integrated and integrative curricular perspective of social reality.
This study has as a stage the Lisbon School of Education, in the discipline of "History and Geography of Portugal II" (HGPII), in the 3rd year of the Degree in Basic Education. Its goals are: (i) to conceive a formative practice in History and Geography, mobilizing active methodologies; (ii) implement a new training practice, planning activities that promote or develop integrated historical-geographical competences; (iii) evaluate the training process and students learnings.
Methodologically, we took documentary analysis of the templates of the HGPII subject, of the support materials and of the works produced by the students.
The results indicate the potential of a conjoined training in History and Geography that privileges active methodologies and development of historical-geographical competences. The evaluation of the results gathered confirms the advantages of promoting an approach to the teaching of History and Geography that addresses the ability to interrogate reality and know how to seek answers in a spatiotemporal dimension.
