The hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau, as one of the areas with the most drastic changes in vegetation coverage in recent years, the analysis of the tempo-spatial pattern of land use change and the resulting resource and environmental effects provide a scientific basis for the sustainable development of the region. Taking the Yanhe River Basin as the study area, this study firstly uses GIS spatial analysis technology, landscape pattern index to systematically analyze the quantitative structure, spatial form and utilization modes of land use in this region from 1980 to 2020. Then, remote sensing image data is used to characterize the changes in regional NDVI, regional ecological service value, carbon emissions and soil erosion caused by land use change. The results show that: (1) The order of change intensity of each landscape type in the Yanhe River Basin is: cultivated land > forest land> grassland > construction land> water area. Except for the cultivated land showing a significant decrease, woodland, grassland and construction land grow considerably. (2) The spatial agglomeration degree of grassland and cultivated land gradually rise. (3) The NDV index and carbon emission caused by land use change in the Yanhe River Basin show an upward trend, while the soil erosion rate decreases dramatically. This conclusion can provide policy basis for the sustainable utilization and management of regional land use.
