The transition from classroom to Distance Learning required the development and implementation of new pedagogical and didactic strategies for Geographical Education, as well as the use of innovative, multi-platform and customized methodologies tailored to the needs and prerequisites of each pupil, with particular attention to pupils with disabilities. While geography, along with other disciplines, struggles to reproduce the complexity of the normal learner-teacher interaction in virtual form, the cyberspace of geographic teaching offers several advantages: on the one hand, it is likely to expand the opportunities for exploration and interpretation of reality for the benefit of the entire class group (De Vecchis and Pesaresi, 2011); on the other hand, it allows the teacher to implement a successful inclusive and digital education by reshaping the didactic interventions, the pedagogical setting and the disciplinary objectives. In this respect, geography, more than other disciplines, is able to provide students with the necessary tools to navigate in the "space of absence" (Morri, 2020) into which the pandemic has projected the Educational Institutions.
This contribution presents a Lesson Plan on sustainable development starting from the reflections and social transformations triggered by the spread of the new Coronavirus. The intervention is addressed to students attending the first two years of an Italian high school (specifically Liceo), including students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). It is structured in three phases: 1. Individual learning activities divided into two Modules (“Responsible consumption and production”, “Sustainable cities and communities”), for a total of five activities; 2. Six multidisciplinary video-lessons and the creation of an associated portfolio (Giorda, 2020); 3. Debate (Healey, 2012) and group activities, with the creation of a Powerpoint presentation, on one or more objectives of the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development.
