Several international studies have examined the phenomenon and impact of brain drain, and some of the studies on Hungary have explored the Hungarian-Hungarian brain drain phenomenon, which is linked to the ethnic groups of the mother country and the neighboring countries. This process is mainly linked to the issue of resettlement following student migration.
The target group of the study was defined as Hungarian students who had obtained an absolute degree in higher education in Hungary but were not born in the mother country. The aims of this research are to compare and deepen the results identified in the research history and revealed by quantitative methods - three big data analyses - with individual life paths and to gain insights into individual opinions.
Based on the focus group interviews, (i) experiences in higher education and transition to the labor market; (ii) participants' life stage, relation with the host society and country of birth experiences; (iii) "floating life" versus permanent settlement, the career path of the target group is presented in listed three main units.
