In my university I am directing ‘Democratic Citizen School’ in 2021 for my students. This school is extra curriculum for my 20 students. The goal of this school is to develop citizen competencies with participation in controversial issues. The basic activities are reading texts, participation and experience, and reflective discussion and writing in this school. My students will read the book, ‘Civil Disobedience’ which written by Henry David Thoreau firstly, and see the film, ‘Selma’. Secondly my students will research controversial issues through participation and experience. And thirdly they will discuss reflectively and write the reports. Curriculum for this school is 10 weeks, 3 hours per week. Finally they wrote reports based on projects, and presented them on conference of The Korean Society of Education for International Understanding. They empopwered citizenship through this school.
