Barra do Antonião is a site located in the karst domain of the region surrounding the Serra da Capivara National Park and stands out for being a paleontological site where lithic tools, Pleistocene megafauna fossils, avifauna and the skeleton of a woman dated to 9700 years were found. There was an attempt to create the Serra da Capivara Geopark, in an area larger than the National Park and covering Barra do Antonião, but the situation is still undefined. We carried out a large bibliographical survey to understand the various aspects of the natural formation of this geosite, and contextualize it in the past, in order to understand the current relationship between man and nature in that place. Our methodology also consisted of interviews with former workers from the ‘caieiras’, the ovens made to burn lime. Through its geological, paleontological and archaeological diversity, we can establish links with the social relations engendered contemporaneously, which are marked by peonage, poverty, illiteracy, and the omissive and selectively punitive action of the State. In this way, we seek to preserve both the geosite and the personal memories of those who contributed to the destruction of records of the evolution of Earth and the man on it. In some decades, geoheritage site was threatened to miss its diversity due to the extreme poverty in the Brazilian countryside.
