Research on border issues has experienced an expansion in recent years at a global level, mainly through the so-called Border Studies. In particular, its relevance has increased since 2020, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Undoubtedly, Geography plays a fundamental role in researching borders and their socio-spatial effects. There are various scales of analysis, from the local one — boundaries between neighbourhoods or between municipalities — to international ones — borders as markers of national sovereignty, but also between large world regions.
Spanish Geography has not been left out of this new impulse of border research. To date, no international benchmark research centre has yet been established, although it is possible to identify relevant collective or individual research that echoes existing global research lines. The objective of this contribution is to provide a balance of the geographical production on this topic in Spain in recent decades, pointing out some of the main issues addressed. In particular, the most recent research will be analysed, paying special attention to work related to the pandemic and its effects on re-bordering processes at different scales.
