Exploring the association between collective efficacy and adaptation is urgent with unprecedented climate change, which has negatively impacted and continues to impact societies and economies. Despite the proliferation of academic adaptation-related research, studies examining the collective efficacy-adaptation nexus are scarce, and no publication has synthesized the available studies to date. Given this gap, the current contribution systematically reviews (through roses) global literature to establish the state of knowledge on the association between collective efficacy and human system/assisted adaptation-related responses to climate hazards globally. Appraisal of studies available on collective efficacy-adaptation nexus almost unequivocally shows that collective efficacy is typically associated with successful/effective adaptation. Through the review the researchers establish a research framework through which communities may be able to understand how to generate/strengthen collective efficacy to support adaptation efforts at different levels and inform governance systems of the current status of collective efficacy-adaptation research, identify gaps and direction for further research on the collective efficacy-adaptation nexus.
