Prospects for the development of urban tourism are associated with the analysis of the structure of age spatial preferences of its residents and guests. Up-to-date data helps to improve traditional and develop new directions, to manage recreational and leisure activities more efficiently, to propose measures for the development of urban tourism policies and practices.
The purpose of our study was to collect data and build a series of maps to analyze the age spatial preferences of city residents, identify favorite cultural, historical, natural and other excursion sites, and prepare recommendations for the development of urban tourism. The study was conducted in Moscow in 2019-2021 with the participation of students from the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting.
The main research methods were questioning and interviewing residents on the topic “I will show you my Moscow”, statistical and cartographic methods. In total, more than 1000 respondents of six age groups were interviewed, according to the classification of the World Health Organization: young age (18–44), middle age (45–59), old age (60–74), old age (75–90), age of longevity (90+).
The data obtained were used to construct a series of maps of the Russian capital, which shows 255 potential excursion sites in Moscow, popular places and events. The study revealed age-specific "centers of attraction", as well as differences in spatial and functional preferences. The attitude of residents of the city to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites was considered separately. More than 35 new excursion routes in the field of educational, sports and recreation, "event", volunteer, ecological tourism have been proposed.
