Widespread public awareness and education on disasters is a key to reducing loss of life, personal injuries, and damage from disasters. People must have knowledge about the hazards, risks, vulnerabilities and disasters. They must be made aware about disasters and their likelihood on own communities. The knowhow about what specific preparations to make before an event occurs and what efforts to makeafter its aftermath, is significant in both disaster mitigation and disaster response. To align the disaster awareness with disaster education specific focus is needed on children and youth, as they are agents of change.The young population should be given the space and modalities to contribute to disaster risk reduction, and therefore educational curriculums at various educational levels must have provisions for the same. This research paper is based on secondary data, mainly from the official documents of the Government of India and available literary sources. The present paper focuses on the studying the relationship between the disaster education and curriculums at various educational levels in accordance with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction in India. It attempts to examine the gaps and challenges faced in the implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction through disaster education and disaster awareness. The paper also comes out with suggestions to make required changes for the effective implementation.
