This presentation investigates into changes in the commuting patterns of Polish urban regions between 5 recent years. We explore the changes of distances and travel time of commuting in relation to urban structure (polycentric urban regions) and its transformation. Shifting attention to the former socialist country, such as Poland, offers an opportunity to reveal the link between a rapid systemic political–economic transition and the development of urban regions. The results suggest that urban form affect commuting patterns and show that the context and initial stage of spatial structure indeed matter in shaping trajectories of commuting in Poland.
