Globalization refers above all to the economy. But this phenomenon also takes on many other forms, notably religious and spiritual. The major religions (Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam) are present on all continents. A less well-known aspect of this expansion concerns new religious movements (NRMs) which appeared after 1945 in developed countries; some of them are like multinationals of religiosity. This presentation aims at presenting the development and dissemination of these movements after geographic criteria. Asia is the cradle of the great religions aforementioned, and the Indian subcontinent is the main “supplier” and inspirer of NRMs. Then many of these movements passed through, changed or were born in the United States, which appear to be a sounding board for the emergence of new forms of religiosity adapted to Western countries. These two parts of the world thus contribute, each in their own way, and almost paradoxically, to renewing religious and spiritual practices, and to bringing about a form of re-enchantment of our modern world.
