The research is focused on the critical issues related to the measurement of local awareness of cultural heritage and the perception of places. By georeferencing the results of a survey, a specific selection of stakeholders will be identified as a significant sample of the Procida community. A geo-referenced questionnaire - created on the basis of the suggestions of the Faro Convention (2005) - will be submitted to entrepreneurs, business managers, employees and other economic subjects involved in the tourism sector. Cultural heritage is a strategic asset to promote the conservation and redevelopment of the historic buildings of Procida. The requalification and tourist enhancement of the housing heritage is closely linked to intangible aspects according to a complex process that answers the question: how does the community perceive the values ??involved in the landscape and cultural heritage. A qualitative approach, based on the results of the survey, is linked to the Territorial Information System to quantify and map the awareness of the Island of Procida. This island, located within the large and renowned Neapolitan tourist region, has been named the Italian Capital of Culture for 2022 with the slogan "Culture does not isolate". This research underlines that the condition of insularity can represent, if properly interpreted, not an obstacle but an opportunity for the enhancement of the local cultural and identity heritage. In this sense, it is very important to involve the inhabitants in the decision-making processes aimed at optimizing the effects that the appointment obtained by Procida can have on the sustainable development of the island.
