EUROGEO (founded in 1979 as European Standing Conference of Geography Teachers Association) has contributed to the consolidation of a European geography, promoting internationalisation in geographical school and higher education and research through the boost of synergies among national geographical societies, geography departments, organisations and even individuals, European conferences, publications, projects, activities, etc. These initiatives have permitted not only raising awareness about the importance of Europe in geographical production, but also contributed to the implementation of the European citizenship.
If geography matters more than ever, European geographers should be at the forefront of geographical research and education in 21st century challenges like climate change (as European Union pretends to be the first carbon neutral continent), Sustainable Development Goals, post-Covid geographies, environment, risks and hazards in the Anthropocene, population, migrations, urban development, geospatial technologies, geographical education for global understanding, or democracy and human rights.
