Standardization of geographical names is usually a time-consuming and complicated process, which also means high costs. Countries are tackling this process in different ways. In Slovenia, only the names of countries and geographical names on the map of Slovenia on the scale of 1:250000 have the status of standardized geographical names. Researchers are trying to receive funds in various ways so that this process can continue. One of the possibilities is targeted research projects. Currently, two such projects are underway at the institute, addressing the field of hydronyms and the field of microtponims in the Slovenian borderland in Hungary. The lecture will present the methodology of research work and partial results.
