The pandemic caused by the global spread of the virus that causes COVID-19 is causing extreme consequences in all countries of the world. Furthermore, those who were in situations of greater inequality have deepened social, political, economic and gender inequalities. Consequently, there was an expansion of the gap in access to public policies in terms of gender, among other rights violations. In other words, hetero-cis women and the LGBTTIQ + community constitute the population that were most affected by the social, economic and health consequences of the pandemic, especially about reciving sexual education from a comprehensive perspective. For this reason, this presentation will reflect on the need to incorporate Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) into the teaching of Geography, as one of the conditions of possibility to enable spaces for reflection on gender gaps as well as a way of guaranteeing, in itself, the right to education. In turn, the incorporation of the perspective of CSE in Geography school classes allows us to understand spatial and territorial phenomena focused on gender differences and contribute to their transformation.
At the beginning there will be a presentation of the main data and statistics produced on gender inequalities deepened during the current pandemic, with a focus on access to education. Then, it will be analyzed the contributions and political positions of the CSE Law of Argentina and the role of the school. There will be a brief historical tour on the main academic developments of Geographies of gender and sexualities. The current state of CSE implementation in the teaching of Geography is also analyzed, in times of pandemic, showing the statistics produced by national and international organizations on the gender gap in access to education. To conclude, the challenges presented by the possible, and also necessary, crossovers between Geography and CSE, especially in times of pandemic and virtual schooling, will be considered.
