Brazilian economy and politics have been characterized, according to Martins Filho (2021), by major federal pacts, woven as to assure the ownership of the land and the private appropriation of resources by local dominant classes. During Jair Bolsonaro’s government (2019-2022), the recipe was no different. This work, which derives from a dissertation written for the Geography Master’s Program of Unicentro, Guarapuava-PR, Brazil, aims at understanding what defines a current geopolitical strategy and in what ways the Brazilian Armed Forces influence the State’s territorial policies. Taking the debate around Political Geography and Security Studies (Rego-Monteiro 2021) as a starting point, our goal is to investigate the relationship between the Armed Forces geopolitical statements and Jair Bolsonaro’s government practices on territorial policies. The specific methodology procedures comprehend: the analysis of official documents; data gathering on the participation of the military in Jair Bolsonaro’s government; and interviews with government members. The purpose is to investigate the militarization of the State and the caring out of the ENSIC (National Security Strategy for Critical Infrastructure) (Dec. nº 10.569/2020) through the analysis of geopolitical statements while observing how they shape the construction of the territory (Costa 2016). The work allows for a review of military geopolitics and its relationship with the 2018 Elections, time in which this debate returned to the political scene. It is worth mentioning that our primary source, the ENSIC, guides State action, above all, by the appropriation of the national territory and its resources, essential themes in Political Geography (Foucault 2008, Gottmann 1973). The presented thesis shows that the Brazilian Armed Forces considers the maintenance of political control of the territory, especially during the reoccurring periods of State militarization and the everlasting strive for “National Objectives”.
