Our paper proposes to report on an action-research experiment carried out with a network of ten mid-mountain territories (Massif Central, France) on the issue of the night-time environment. These territories have organised themselves into "regional nature parks": these are types of local and grassroots projects that are intended to work collectively on environmental and natural heritage protection issues.
For two years (2020/2021), the intervention of our team consisted in helping the teams of agents and local delegates of these parks to appropriate the ecological, economic and cultural issues related to light pollution, but also to enhance their awareness of other aspects related to the night-time environment. The aim of this intervention was also to help them specify together the practical issues involved in this territorialisation and embededdness (needs in terms of engineering, skills, collective organisation and training). Moreover it consisted in proposing experiments, in particular to work on changes in practices and the formalisation of projects around the night-time environment. We will report on the main lessons learned from this experience, in terms of local pathways (awareness about the topic, mobilisation, local resources) and collective approaches (projects carried out, controversies, difficulties and limits encountered).
